2.3. How AI learns from Data: Machine learning vs. Deep learning

In our journey through AI, we learned that AI learns from data. But the question is, how does AI learn?

You may have heard of ‘Machine Learning’ and ‘Deep Learning.’ These are the special ways AI learns from data.

Machine learning (ML)

Deep learning (DL)

Think of ML as someone learning to cook with a recipe book. Follow steps (algorithms) and use ingredients (data) to make a dish (output).

You are an experienced chef, who learns to cook by taste and experimentation. You do not need a recipe book; instead, you experiment with different ingredients and techniques to create new dishes.

The more recipes you try, the better you get at cooking (suggesting).

This is DL, where the system learns from a large amount of data, finding patterns and making decisions without specific instructions.

Fill in the blanks:

  1. Machine learning (ML) teaches computers to learn from _________________________________ and make
  2. In Deep Learning (DL), the computer learns by finding _________________________ in large amounts of data.
  3. _______________________ is an advanced technique within _______________________, which itself is a part of AI (Artificial Intelligence).
